In difficult economic times, programs that help families and organizations pay for basic necessities like food and oil are more important than ever. The United Way of Massachusetts Bay has placed a renewed effort on basic needs, in addition to programs for sustainable employment, affordable housing and youth opportunities.
BWH’s annual two-week campaign to raise funds for the United Way is Oct. 17 to 31.
“The United Way serves the community that the Brigham serves,” said campaign co-chair George Player, director of Engineering. “Many of our patients and employees benefit from programs that the United Way funds.”
Last year, BWH raised more than $100,000. This year, the hospital is stepping up its commitment by making it easier than ever for employees to donate to the United Way.
Employees will receive direct, personalized e-mails with a link to their own giving page, simplifying online donations through payroll deduction, credit card or check. Employees who opt out will not receive additional e-mails, and employees who donate through the online mechanism will not receive any follow-up e-mails.
“We hope that employees will find it easier than ever to give,” said campaign co-chair Daria Christensen, executive administrator for Surgery. “Our goal is to increase both participation and the amount of money we raise for such an important cause. Please join us.”
Watch for e-mails with a direct link to your giving page. The names of those who donate will be entered automatically into daily raffles for prizes including Celtics and Bruins tickets, gift cards to the Capital Grille, Davio’s, Home Depot and much more.
Stop by tables outside the Cafeteria during lunchtime each day for information the next two weeks. Don’t miss the United Way ice cream social Thursday, Oct. 30, in the Pod B Cafeteria.
